Create a FootPrints Twitter App for Your Organization
The following describes how to create a Twitter app for your organization. For more information on the social media feature and configuration, see Broadcasting Issues to Social Media (Overview).
Prerequisite
A Twitter account must exist for your organization.
You will need the following to complete the steps below:
- Your organization's Twitter account's user name and password
- A name to call your Twitter app (e.g., My Organization's Twitter Feed) -- a unique name up to 32 characters
- A description of your Twitter application (between 10 and 200 characters)
- The URL for your organization's FootPrints host
Create New App
- In your browser, go to https://dev.twitter.com.
- On the Twitter Developers page, click Sign In, then enter your organization's Twitter account user name and password.
- Under Create applications that integrate Twitter, click the Create an app link.
- On the Create an application page, enter your application name in the Name field (a unique name up to 32 characters).
- Enter a description of your application in the Description field (between 10 and 200 characters).

Enter the URL for your organization's FootPrints host in the WebSite field.
The FootPrints host must be publicly accessible.
- Enter the same URL entered in the WebSite field in the Callback URL (optional).

Under Developer Rules Of The Road, read and click Yes, I agree.
- Enter the CAPTCHA phrase, then click the Create your Twitter application button.
The Home > My applications page displays with the name of your Twitter app.
Configure the App
- On the Home >My applications page, click the Settings tab.
- Under Application Type, select Read and Write, then click the Update this Twitter application’s settings button.
- Click the Details tab, then copy the Consumer key and Consumer secret to Notepad, as you will need these values when you connect the Twitter app to FootPrints), described in the next topic.
